The 2025 UK Kubb Championship - Event Details

The UKKubb 2025 Championship will be held on Saturday June 28th 2025.

UKKubb 2025 will be held again at Hursley Park in Hampshire, a venue set in extensive, beautiful grounds belonging to IBM Laboratories. The facilities on site include a football pitch, softball pitch, cricket pitch, fitness trail and much more. Our event will be held on the cricket pitch, surrounded by mature woodland and in front of the Hursley Clubhouse, which will be providing our bar, catering and bathroom facilities.

We've put a lot of thought into finding a wonderful venue that allows us to run a great UKKubb event, and Hursley Park would be right at the top of the list , meeting all the criteria that we set.

Hursley is within 15 minutes of all the amenities of Winchester, Eastleigh and Romsey. It has easy transport links through rail via Winchester or Romsey, road, with the M3 only a few minutes away and even air, with Southampton airport very close by. Accommodation is available within easy reach at hotels of all prices and ranges and there are a number of campsites only a few minutes from the event.

Importantly, the Hursley Clubhouse has a long and successful history of supporting and catering for very large events, and we are confident that they will provide a service that is a step above what we have been able to offer elsewhere. We are likely to be able to offer a pre-booked high quality meal or  barbecue options,  as well as a great range of beer, wine and soft drinks. The team at the Clubhouse has already been incredibly supportive as we have worked through requirements for the event, and they are genuinely excited to have us all there again in 2025.

This year fee will be £20 per team of between 2 and 6 players. Any fees collected will be used to provide a better event, and will never be used for the personal gain of  the organisers.

Schedule Overview

Arrival at the venue - 10:00 - 10:15

We know that some of you are travelling from quite a way off, but we strongly suggest that you get to the venue no later than 10:15 so that you can get parked, stretch you legs and get registered in time for the briefing at 10:45.

The Briefing - 10:45

As usual we will start the day with a briefing to go over schedule changes, and any specific rules. Also to remind you of any safety points. This will be your chance to ask questions. All teams MUST attend the briefing. It's a really important part of the day to ensure that everything from there on goes to plan. You'll also hear where you are playing in the first round.

Preliminary Games 1, 2 & 3 - 11:00 to 12:45

The preliminary games are all started at the same time. All teams need to be at their pitches and ready to play at 11:15. If the game finishes before 25 minutes is up, come to the control tent to give us the result, as soon as possible.
A signal will be given after 25 minutes. At that point, if you are still playing, finish the round you are on (finish throwing the 6 batons, but don't start a new 6) and count the remaining baseline Kubbs. Come and tell the control tent the result.
The second round of games starts 40 minutes after the first round started, so that is 25 minutes to the "finish signal", 5 minutes to get the result to the control tent and 10 minutes to be assigned the next pitch and get ready to play. So it's pretty full on for the first three games.

Break - 12:45 to 13:45

60 minutes break to get our breath back and grab a drink or something to eat before the second session. We'll also update you on any timing changes at this point. For the people that elected to take up our BBQ offer, this is when we will be serving.

Preliminary Games 4, 5 & 6 - 13:45 to 15:30

Just like the first session. Timing is the same: All games start at the same time, 25 minutes play (if required), 5 minutes to close out the game and get the results to the control tent, 10 minutes to hear your next assignment and get ready to play.

Break - 15:30 to 15:50

Another 20 minutes break while we determine the 32 teams that will be going forward into the championship, the 32 teams that will compete for the plate, and the remaining teams that will play for the saucer.

Championship Round of 32 - 15:50 to 16:15

The Round of 32 will be competed as single games with an accelerated finish after 20 minutes. See below for an explanation of this accelerated finish. All Round of 32 games will be run at the same time. Winners go through to the Quarter finals, losers become spectators.

Championship Round of 16 - 16:25 to 16:50

The Round of 16 will be competed as single games with an accelerated finish after 20 minutes. See below for an explanation of this accelerated finish. All Round of 16 games will be run at the same time. Winners go through to the Quarter finals, losers become spectators.

Championship Quarter Finals - 17:00 to 17:25

The Quarter finals will be competed as single games with an accelerated finish after 20 minutes. See below for an explanation of this accelerated finish. All quarter finals will be run at the same time. Winners go through to the semi finals, losers become spectators.

Championship Semi Finals - 17:35 to 18:35

The Championship Semi Finals will be competed in a best of three format. The first game will be decided by "nearest the king", from then on, the start will alternate. All games will all go to a finish, but after 20 minutes they will have an "Accelerated Finish" format. See below for an explanation of this accelerated finish. Both semi finals will be run at the same time. Winners go through to the finals, losers become spectators.

Finals - 18:45 to 19:30

Same as the Semis. The best two teams of the day, fighting it out to a tired but deserved victory.

Plate Competition - 15:50 to 18:40

This is a second competition for teams that didn't quite make the top 32. It will be fought out in a knockout format over five rounds that will run at the same time as the championship quarters and semis.
All rounds will be single games with an accelerated finish after 20 minutes. See below for an explanation of this accelerated finish.

Saucer Competition - 15:50 to 18:40

NEW! This is a new third competition for teams that didn't make the top 64. Details are the same as for the plate.

UK National Champion Competition - TBC

NEW! A best-of-three bout between the top two performing UK-based team to celebrate the best that the UK has to offer.

The Award Ceremony - 19:35 ish

All being well, we'll be awarding the Championship and Plate trophies at about 19:35.

Possible Changes

If we start to run behind schedule, there are two main changes that we might make:
1. We have the option of reducing the number of preliminary rounds from 6 to 5. We will make every effort to make that decision no later than the end of the first three-game session, so it doesn't come as a surprise.
2. We might reduce the Championship Semi final games from "best of three" to single games. Again, we will give as much notice as possible.

We also have the option of running 3rd/4th place play offs or more, depending on demand and whether people want to stick around to the bitter end or get on the road. Frankly the weather will play a part here.

The Roster

The following teams have already registered. Please do get in touch if you think that your team should be listed here but isn’t, or if you think we have some details wrong. Note that the list tends to change a bit as the competitors’ plans alter, so it might be worth checking back from time to time.

Note: Asterisk indicates that the registration is pending
